Define "FEW" please

The agency has decided the numbering system was not meeting their needs so they eliminated it. No one asked me. It was meeting my needs just fine, thank you very much.
In place of the numbering system they have provided me with the following update on the status of my adoption file:

"What I can advise you is that there are only a few other families whose files were registered before yours, who are open to the placement of either a boy or girl."

So what does this mean? I haven't the faintest idea.
It sounds good. Really good. But...what is the definition of few?
If you are reading this fill up my comment section with your definition of few.
I'd love to see who is reading.

Well you know I read your blog. Here is my numbering system.

1=1
2=a couple
3=a few
4 (he's a tricky number, he could slide his way into a few, but that really makes number 3 mad, and he just doesn't quite fit the qualifications of number 5, which is a handfull)
Maybe you should ask your agency again, for an exact number this time?

i agree - 3.
a few means 3. or maybe 3-4.
no more than 4.
and that would be a great thing.

i hope they define 'few' the same way ;)

When we were number 1 on the list someone who had previously received a referral lost their referral (birth mother came back) And so they were pushed ahead of us to receive a new referral...I think this is why they do not give exact numbers...although knowing just a number made the wait a little easier for me until we had to wait at number one for so darn long!
We waited 13 months for our referral and I can tell you that it's all worth it!

Hopefully for your sake, the agency is using the correct definition of a few means-3 or 4, no more! I don't think my agency uses a number system either. I think I would like one when I get closer to a referral. It would give me something to hold onto!

Ditto to everyone who said 3 or 4!

Ange is bang on... we had this discussion in person when the agency said there were "a number" of referals coming. A number is more than a few... and "a few" can only be 3... maximum 4.
It is enough for all of us to hang on to.
