Searching

When I was in Vietnam last January I had a portrait of Benjaminh created in Charcoal. the artist used a photo and had his work ready in 2 days. TWO...unbelievable really. The very best 30 bucks American I have ever spent. I am in love with his work and it hangs above my couch.

Well, Benjaminh's Auntie Julia and Uncle Danny will be travelling to Hanoi in the not too distant future to meet sweet Molly. I have an itching for a second portrait. Because...well, just because. The trick is finding the perfect photo.

Here is January's photo, taken on the day after the adoption ceremony. He is looking a bit wide eyed and holding himself up in a tri-pod sitting position. I can hardly remember the baby he was that day (mostly because he was demanding to be fed every hour all day and all night long...).

And the resulting portrait. So now I am searching.
Searching for the very best possible shot for portrait number 2.
It could be a face shot
or a whole body shot.
I'm not quite sure yet.
And I'm almost sure I want it to be a shot of Ben as a 1 year old.
Here are a couple of favourites to date...
Here are 2 possibilities that are exceptions to the 1 year old rule...
for obvious reasons I love both of these shots.
Opinions are welcome, encouraged actually.

If you have a different shot from the blog in mind speak up.

no question. Hand down. You and Ben on Ha Long Bay.

Here is why I think this. First this is the most beautiful photo. It jumps off the page/screen. And then the portrait of Ben alone is for you. The portrait of you and Ben together when you first became a family - in such a setting - well that one is for Ben too as grows. He marries. He has wee ones of his own.

My 2 cents.

I love the one with you looking down at him in your arms in Vietnam. How about a companion one with a Canadian background and get two done? Just a thought.

I totally concur with Mary. The one with you and Ben.

I have one of my oldest alone, and another one of us together. For the reasons Mary said.

And then you know about the next one, because YOU got it for me!! :)

They are simply beautiful drawings and I love them!

Snick :)

I agree with Mary and everyone else, the first one of both of you is best if you're only getting one.

Yes, I also agree about the one of you and Ben that everyone loves. That would make a beautiful charcoal portrait, you would always treasure it. I kind of think you should get 2 more though..a set of 3 always looks nice on a wall.
I love the 1 year old pics, so cute. The first 2 that you posted - close ups would look nice with the other one you already have. Can't wait to see you again!
Looks like you guys are having a busy and wonderful summer. I know it is going too fast!!

You must get two- no question about it. Three beautiful pictures hanging together will be...well, beautiful. Get the 2 of you at Halong Bay and (I think) the first one year old pic. Three's a charm, definitely 3.

My goodness -- I love so many of your photos BUT I absolutely adore the one of him squatting in the water. I'm looking forward to seeing what you choose!

My first thought was that I love the very first photo of Ben at ! year... but then I read Mary's post and now I am torn. I like the idea of a picture of the two of you, although I wouldn't like to stare at a picture of myself forever and all eternity. I would much prefer to look at my beautiful baby!
