One Year Ago...
One year ago today I was sitting in a staff meeting. I wasn't listening, well not to the principal anyways. I was listening for the little buzzing noise that sounds just before an announcement is made on the school wide system. I was dying inside waiting to hear that the phone had rung.
All day long I smiled at the students as they started their year, greeted the teachers with more of the same "Any day now" answers to their adoption time line questions. And I worried. I fretted. Was there something wrong with the paperwork that had arrived over the weekend? Was there an unexpected delay, again? I had been told that a call was coming and yet the phone didn't ring...all...day...long...and then I was trapped in a meeting hearing about upcoming events that I simply didn't want to participate in. That meeting was unbelievably painful. And never ending.
And then it ended.
And I headed to the dreaded library to get my purse and took a quick peek into my email and there it was...
Congratulations on the referral of your son.
I couldn't get the photo to open. I couldn't peek to see if it was the same baby boy whose photos I had been memorizing for months while I waited for everything to be official. So I did what anyone would do and went to the principal's office where I saw the official referral photo of my sweet baby boy while surrounded by dear friends and colleagues.
And today, to celebrate 1 year later, I got to miss that September 2nd meeting and spent my day staring at the real thing.

Happy referral anniversary! We celebrated ours today. I was actually so glad to be at school when it happened. It was even fun reminiscing with the students who were there today.
Happy Anniversary and thank you so much for continuing to blog this past year. We're expecting our referral from Vietnam by the end of October, and watching Ben grown and seeing all the joy he brings to your life has been so wonderful, so thank you for sharing. I'm looking forward to telling my own referral day story soon!
