"A second is a hiccup--the time it takes to kiss your mom, or jump a rope, or turn around."
A wee quote from a book titled A Child's Book of Time.
Those seconds pass like lightening
and today, our third family day,
time continues to pass by in the blink of an eye.
Some Time, seeming to be so, so slow.
Like bedtime tonight.
Dude is fighting a bug I think.
Napped like the dead for over an hour,
then struggled to sleep for two.
Mama, cuddled up to a ninja warrior,
trying to "still" his body,
"calm" his ever thinking mind.
It didn't go so well.
But these hours will become fewer
as time passes.
These hours of cuddles and snuggles and books.
I work hard to hold these slow moments tight.
Most other moments time speeds by.
Car rides full of questions,
never ending conversation.
Wishing I had a recorder
to make note of what he sees,
how he sees,
explains,
wonders,
questions,
nearly every moment of every day.
Speeding time along.
On Jan 9th, 3 years ago, Ben came into my arms.
We became a family.
He came from a place of deep love,
of that I'm sure.
There are many questions
about his earliest moments
but few about the love his nounou had for him.
For 7 months.
A blessing to him.
A blessing to me.
We keep in contact and we will visit again
before too long.
On the day Ben and I met
she made it clear that the next day,
our family day,
Ben should be dressed in warm
and very handsome clothes
for he deserved no less.
She was pleased
(and so apparently was Ben).
We celebrated our day with Chinese food
in cozy pyjamas.
No pictures,
cause the dude was extraordinarily cranky.
Finished things up with
"green" ice cream,
otherwise known as mint chocolate chip
by Kawartha Dairy
in a cone of course.
And 8 books.
Trucks and mammals,
dinosaurs and the alphabet,
and a brand new blog book
of mama's journey to Ben.
And "I'll love you forever"
by Robert Munsch.
Oh, and a 2 hour snuggle-struggle.
It was perfect.
