Today was a busy day over here in Hanoi. In the morning mommy and I got up early and went down to the lobby to make a blog post. The Canadians were getting restless because the Internet was down yesterday and they really don't like waiting. Auntie Kristen stayed in bed. She is not much of a morning person it seems. Oh, and while was on the way out the door I pooped. Off to a good start for the day.

Mommy couldn't get the pictures to post so we went and woke Auntie K up for breakfast. Once she has a nice hot bowl of pho she is a bit more active and can keep up to my pace. We had a nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then finished up the photos for everyone.

Later in the morning, like 9:30 a.m., Auntie K was feeling crappy and I am not a home body. I need to be out and about or I drive my mommy crazy with my Vietnamese baby swearing....I'm sure she will post a video of it some time...once she stops laughing long enough to grab the camera...so off we went for a little walk. No more ergo carrier for me. I'm a bit of a heat machine and it just isn't working for mommy. But auntie Carol lent mommy a great shoulder pack thing and I can sit my little 8.19kg body on that purse and mommy gets smaller baby carrying cramps.
Anyway, we went to the little cafe in the Hilton for a danish...at Ronit's suggestion...and it must have been delicious. Only 90 cents American. Mommy kid of gasped when the Coke lite was 3.59. Oh well. Oh, and on the way home I pooped. Again.

Bath time. My first bath. Sort of. No immersing me in water over here. It is a bit damp and chilly and I have a bit of a bronchitis thing so I got the whole hot water sponge bath on the towel thing. Washed hair and everything...I was not amused but mommy was giggling. And I hear I'm cute when I'm wet.

Next we headed over to the SOS clinic. I learned something new today. When someone lies in bed and lifts me over their head like an airplane...and I'm teething...and I drool into their mouth...2 days later they have my infection. Go figure. So now Auntie K has less money to spend on coach purses in Seoul because she had to buy medicine for her upper respiratory infection. But I love airplane so she will do it again. The doctor told her to stop kissing me and she said, "But that's why I'm here!" Ha! Doctors don't know everything.

Dinner at Pho 24 was yummy for mommy and she got to eat because the cute ladies held me and made noises just like my nanny used to, to make me laugh.

We went for a lovely walk around Hoan Kiem Lake. The sun was shining and lots and lots of people were out enjoying the weather with their family. I do want to ask you something though...lon vu...what do you think it might mean? The boys seem to say that when they see my sweet auntie. and the men...and the grandfathers...and come to think of it I may have heard these words at the Giving and Receiving Ceremony from a government official. Oy. I hope it means "Boy, she is beautiful!" I was tired of hearing it and I went to sleep for most of the walk...don't tell anyone but I only like to sleep while mommy is walking...and I only like to drink while she is walking too. Reminds me of my hammock days.

Well, we headed home, using Auntie Kristen's directions cause mommy doesn't have any and on the way we encountered a new obstacle...called evening games on busy sidewalks. Whole groups of people playing badminton and a hackie sack type games and something with orange and white rocks...everywhere that scooters weren't parked. Made for interesting walking. On old man even tried to push Auntie Kristen off the sidewalk where we were chatting with a cute western man...and he even yelled and waved his arms at her. And he was a physically fit 90 year old.

And now I'm finishing up my evening with some "safe" play. Auntie Liz would be proud. I've been wrapping myself with computer cords for an hour. What fun! But I do want to point out that I put NOTHING in my mouth...ever...so I'm not sucking on the USB port or anything.
Just today I started to put my finger in my mouth but I want no part of teething toys or spoonfuls of food or computer cords or anything else. Nanny wanted me to be safe. She taught me that the orphanage was germy so I couldn't put my hands in my mouth...but mommy says now it is safe so I'm just beginning to learn. And she wants me to learn fast so I will eat cereal. And sleep. For more than an hour. I don't know what one has to do with the other but I'm not quite ready to comply yet anyways.

It is time for me to go. I can see Auntie Kristen coming with that sticky red medicine and the thick nasty banana stuff and then the delightful nose drops, good thing mommy holds me tight and tries to save me from auntie. Mommy says my chest rattle is always worse after I aspirate my medicine, but auntie Kristen says who cares as long as it gets into me.
We have a big day planned tomorrow, we are going shopping first thing in the morning for more diapers because mommy introduced prunes into my bottle today and let me tell ya they are working.

Wow, who would have known that Ben would have so much to say?

Again, the pictures are amazing! Glad to hear that the prunes are working... a pooping baby is much happier than a constipated baby. Hanoi sounds marvelous and I am glad that Ben is getting to see (sleep) through so much of the adventures. The pictures will be a great way to share his first days with him when he is older.

So sorry that Kristen got the infection. A good dose of meds and she'll be fine, and shopping in no time!

Love the post... and I've fallen in love with that little one already.

Well that was an amazing Guest Post. He can do this anytime if ya ask me:)

The pictures are to die for. The walking sleep one especially. What a remarkably handsome boy.

I am so glad you are out and about and enjoying Hanoi. So much to enjoy.

I have often though we could a lot worse here than introducing street badminton:)

Now waiting patiently for the next batch of pictures.

To fess up - when we were in Hanoi in 2001 the internet was so slow that it took 1/2 hour just to send a text email. Pictures were not possible, This is such a treat.

Hoping everyone continues to make progress with the antibiotics.

Benjaminh- you are quite an eloquent writer!!! Glad that you're having agreat time with your mommy and you've pooped. Good for you!! I'm sorry that your Auntie Kristen got sick, but I'd be kissing you all the time too. Who cares about getting your germs?

You are just the cutest...your mommy is one lucky woman!

Benjaminh- I am so happy you are pooping for your mommy. My mommy seems to get happy when I poop after I haven't for a while. Moms!

I love to play airplane and drool in people's mouths too. Trust me, they never learn!
